About
PEAR & MULBERRY works at the intersection of design, emerging technologies, and cultural investigation. Our practice spans AI-assisted artifacts, research-driven publications, and digital platforms—redefining how design is conceived, authored, and experienced in a transforming world.
We prioritize systems over singular outputs.
Publishing as infrastructure.
And design as a collaborative mode of authorship—shared across disciplines, tools, and generations.
From Material Innovation to Systemic Practice
Rooted in industrial design, parametric modeling, and materials research, PEAR & MULBERRY began by exploring the convergence of health, ergonomics, and computational aesthetics. Early projects—such as We|aver+, a therapeutic 3D-printed sole for pediatric use—combined advanced manufacturing with human-centered functionality, earning recognition from institutions including iF Design Talent, IDA, EPDA, and the Green Concept Award.
As our studio evolved, so did our ambitions. Our focus expanded from individual products to larger inquiries—how design can operate as a cultural system, a spatial language, and a generative platform across formats.
Design ×: Publishing as Platform
The Design × series is our active publishing initiative—an editorial platform that explores design as a framework for insight, provocation, and transformation.
Each title opens a focused inquiry:
Design × Zen examines attentiveness and embodied awareness in design
Design × Who maps influence, pedagogy, and legacy through a social lens
Design × Bio explores how biological systems and intelligence inspire new design methodologies
More than a collection of books, Design × is a growing platform for co-authorship—bringing together researchers, practitioners, and generative systems to collectively rethink how knowledge is designed and shared.
Projects such as HUI HOUSE, which reimagines the architecture of China’s Hui region through 3D scanning and spatial publishing, extend this vision into visual research. Acquired by the Red Dot Design Museum, the work exemplifies our approach to heritage—not as something fixed, but as a medium for reinterpretation, abstraction, and cultural design.
AI-Copiloted Design: Beyond the Product
As the studio shifts from physical manufacturing toward digital experimentation, we are developing new frameworks for AI-copiloted design—where form emerges from collaboration between human authorship and computational logic.
The Reffit series reimagines footwear as a biologically inspired system—drawing from coral growth patterns and generative design principles to produce digital artifacts that are structurally expressive, emotionally resonant, and digitally haptic.
These projects reflect our interest in post-product design: where the object gives way to systems, prompts, and interfaces.
They also serve as prototypes for broader applications—ranging from AI-generated visual languages to design systems and cultural tools built for future-facing environments.
What’s Next
PEAR & MULBERRY is actively developing MVPs across AI-assisted publishing workflows, generative asset systems, and digital authoring tools.
Across all initiatives, our focus remains consistent:
To create work that is rigorous in form, sensorial in experience, and relevant to the times ahead—positioning design not only as a tool for making, but as a strategic language for meaning, context, and cultural continuity.
